Why Having A Realtor That Advocates For You Pays Off

Oct 19, 2022

A house is undoubtedly one of the biggest and the most expensive investments in your life. Similarly, deciding which house to buy will be the most important decision you’ll ever have to make. For some, the whole buying process could be stressful, and for luckier ones, it could be a breeze. But what makes or breaks the deal? A good realtor.

I had to go through a bad realtor until I found somebody that was on my side. I remember I set up a meeting with them and told them what I was planning on doing. I said I wanted to buy a multifamily property, but they told me things like I was never going to be able to buy a multifamily property without anything wrong with it, I wasn’t the first one to think of it, and it’s not going to be a very good idea because it’s going to be hard finding a multifamily property. On top of that, they were trying to push the Realtor Agreement to me.

To say that the situation really discouraged me would be an understatement. Imagine hearing those things when I was just starting out. Everybody from my family was renting. I didn’t have any aunties, uncles, or grandparents that had properties. I was the very first in my family to own a house, so I had to learn everything from scratch. When I went in there and had somebody tell me all those things, it was very discouraging. I ended up not working with that person which is probably one of the best decisions I ever made.

After a while, I found a childhood friend of mine that just posted on social media about houses. I reached out to him, and we got together. He was like a mentor to me. At that time, he was already a seasoned Realtor, so he was really able to guide me through the entire process. He was also an investor so that really made a huge difference. For the first time, I had someone listen to my preferences and really advocated for me. Having him as my agent for my first property really changed the game for me. I really looked up to him and although currently, he is out of state, we still talk from time to time.

When I was looking to buy my first property it took several tries until we both finally agreed on a house. I could say that’s where having a good realtor pays off because he’d point out stuff that I didn’t even know at that time. When we both walked into the house that I ended up buying, we were both like “THIS IS THE ONE”. That was the only house we agreed on. It was perfect. The lower unit was already vacant and that’s where I was moving into. It was immaculate, it was like no one lived up there because it was so clean. I came to find out it was inherited. It ended up being the perfect house hack.

I sound like a broken record for always repeating this, but that property changed my life and I’ve got my realtor to thank for that. He advocated for me, really listened to what I wanted, and most of all believed that what I wanted was attainable.

Now that I am a licensed realtor myself, I see to it that my clients receive the same level of care that I got. I cherish every opportunity to help find my clients the most profitable deals. I leverage my extensive knowledge to advise clients on which strategies would be best to grow their rental property business. I teach them how to start maximizing their income and building generational wealth. Most of all, I listen and advocate for my client’s needs because I’ve been in the same shoes more times than I could count, and I could say that having had that good realtor really changed the game for me.
